It was a touchdown. It was a fumble. Depends on who you ask, but one thing is for sure, the eight-yard RGIII scramble at the end of the first half personifies Griffin’s Redskins career.

With one play, Griffin showed the world that he still has that can’t miss speed that set the league on fire in 2012. However, instead of the touchdown putting the Redskins up 17-7, the missed points and subsequent penalty swung momentum the Giants’ way.

No matter how electrifying RGIII looks, there always seems to be something that seems to hold him back. His knee. His first coach. His ankle. His second coach. His offensive line. And in this case, the referee’s call on the field.

RGIII played a solid game yesterday and seemed to be enjoying himself. For the vast majority of the season, Jay Gruden worked hard on taking that joy away. By forcing RGIII to be a pocket passer, he made him tentative in his decision making.

Yesterday, that was not the case and the results showed. Was Griffin perfect? Of course not, but he did help Andre Roberts have his biggest receiving total of the season. Griffin also had his biggest rushing total since Week 13 of the 2013 season. The seven times that Griffin was sacked can’t be blamed completely on him as the offensive line was atrocious, more so after Trent Williams exited with an injury.

The lack of a defensive presence definitely can’t be blamed on RGIII. When the defense makes Odell Beckham look like a Hall of Famer in his rookie year, it’s hard for the offense to compensate for that, regardless of who is playing quarterback.

With reports that Jay Gruden will be back for a second season, the RGIII-Gruden storyline will continue to gain more traction. Hopefully Gruden realizes how to utilize RGIII’s skill-set or this play will live on in infamy represent RGIII’s career…sheer excitement with no result.
