Two Former Colonials Tryout For Washington Wizards
By Matthew Laux
The Washington Wizards continued to run try outs in hopes of finding the appropriate fit for the team’s 46th pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft. This time another set of former local players, Isiah Armwood and Maurice Creek, were invited to try outs along with nine others. Both players starred for George Washington University, but took very different paths to Tuesday’s workout.
Washington was Creek’s first and only tryout, but the story runs very deep for one of the most intriguing players in this year’s draft class. Creek began his collegiate career making noise for the Indiana Hoosiers and effectively torched current Wizard John Wall for 31 points vaulting him into Freshman of the Year contention. Three games later, however, the guard suffered his first of three season ending injuries that ultimately led him to transfer to George Washington. Still, his dream to play for an NBA team remains and Tuesday was a major moment.
On the other hand, Armwood, a graduate of Montrose Christian, is a bigger post presence and his intensity makes him special down low. Armwood has participated in tryouts for three different teams, but the duo enjoyed the time working out together. Who knows what’s in store for these two players, but it’d be an interesting proposition to have either on the floor with Wall.
