Alex Ovechkin Ok After Apparent Injury
By Matthew Laux
It’s every organizations worst nightmare to have their best player injured while representing their home country. For The Washington Capitals, this was a very real possibility when three- time Hart Trophy winner, Alex Ovechkin, collided with a player around mid-ice while playing for Team Russia in the IIHF Championships. Initially, the injury looked rather ugly and could have added insult to injury as the Capitals most recently fired both their general manager and head coach. The Capitals star laid on the ice for several minutes before finally being assisted off the ice by the training staff. Then, Ovechkin was unable to apply pressure to his right leg and therefore was immediately rushed to a local hospital for an MRI, but the severity of the injury remained unclear.
Just a few days later, the right winger was spotted walking around on his own power with a slight limp. This is much better than previously thought and was a major sigh of relief for all Washington Capitals fans. After the team’s 3-0 victory of Germany, Ovechkin will be held out of Russia’s final preliminary game against Belarus and is seen as day-to- day. The official diagnosis remains unclear, but for now Alex Ovechkin is healthy.
