Rivera had previously admitted to shooting Taylor in the leg after the former Redskin surprised the attempted burglars. Taylor was in the midst of the 2007 season, but had injured his left knee prior to returning home for the bye week. Rivera, among others, had previously been breaking into Taylor’s Florida home and was shocked to find the safety in his own bed.
The murder had struck deep cords into the National Football League and especially the Washington Redskins franchise. The former Miami Hurricane had showed great development both on and off the field during his four year NFL career and the future was extremely bright. Rest in Peace number 21, Sean Taylor.
