Nationals Park Likely To Host Winter Classic
By Matthew Laux
In 2011, the Washington Capitals agreed to participate in the first annual NHL Winter Classic. After the event’s recent success, the NHL has finally repaid Washington, as the Caps will play host to the NHL’s winter classic in 2015. There had been several rumors surrounding the location of the event, but it has been reported that Nationals Park will likely play host to the event. Other venues such as FedEx Field and RFK Stadium had been mentioned, but the NHL representatives have visited Nationals Park in recent weeks, and it appears they were pleased with what they saw.

Nationals Park opened in 2011, and the new stadium has been a major hit among local fans and Washington area tourists alike. The stadium offers a wide variety of exciting activities as well as great view of the Nation’s capital.
The question still remains as to what the NHL hopes to do with the stadium’s parking and tailgating situation? Nationals Park has a very limited number of parking, and relies heavily upon the Metro’s mode of transportation. The NHL must find an alternative for fans so that they will be able to properly enjoy the festivities surrounding the Winter Classic.
