DC hopes to host 2024 Olympics
By Matthew Laux
Big news out of the city of Washington today as the DC 2024 non-profit committee was formed in hopes of winning the right to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. The President of the committee, Bob Sweeney, said the city is “the safest and most secure city in the world.” Another point of emphasis will be the daily inconveniences Washingtonians have become so accustomed too.
The bid, however, still has a ways to go, as there were 35 other US cities that were shown interest. Washington appeared to be a major contender back in 2012, but was out done by New York. The host attempt may be a bit more likely this go round, and the committee hopes to receive more funding. Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has already shown interest in supporting the games, and more local figures are sure to back the campaign. There are many more steps for the DC 2024 committee to take, but we are a city to be reckoned with.
