‘Skins lose Safety Thomas for year
By Matthew Laux
Unfortunate news out of Richmond, Tuesday, as Washington Redskins rookie safety Phillip Thomas, a fourth round pick, has suffered a Lisfranc foot injury. The Fresno State product was expected to contribute heavily in his freshman campaign, but sustained the injury in the preseason opener against Tennessee. Thomas started the game at strong safety and had a major impact so far during training camp. Thomas was an all American a season ago, however, was not expected to start right away. The initial reports were that the x-rays were negative, but after receiving a second opinion they found the torn ligaments in the left foot of Thomas. Phillip will now miss the entire 2013 season and begin the long journey back. The most devastating part of the loss is that the Redskins lose a player in probably their weakest group, but as they say, “the show must go on.”
