Juan Martin Del Potro looks to capture his third title at the event

The city of Washington plays host to their annual ATP Tennis tournament beginning this weekend with qualifying rounds on July 27th and 28th.  The Citi Open, formerly known as the Legg Mason, will have some of Pro Tennis’s finest.

The tournament’s top seed will be the former two-time champ Juan Martin Del Potro.  Del Potro is coming off a dramatic five set lose to Novak Djokvic at Wimbledon and will look to rebound in Washington, D.C.  Filling out the field will be top players such as Tommy Haas, Gael Monfils, and Lleyton Hewitt .

John Isner will be the highest seed of the American crop, which features Mardy Fish, James Blake, and Sam Querrey.  The 500-level event annually has a strong group of players and this year is no exception.

The William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center will stage the event now in its second year.  The returning champ is Alexander Dolgopolov of the Ukraine.  Dolgopolov captured last year’s title by defeating Haas in the finals.  A year ago, the field was smaller than usual seeing as most of the top players represented their nation in the Olympic Games.  The main draw will get under way beginning on Monday.  Get on down to the Citi Open to get your dose of top flite tennis.
