Several Caps invited to Olympic Tryouts

The 2014 Olympic Winter Games are quickly approaching and on July 19th the National Hockey League gave the okay to allow players to compete in the event. Many Nations’ camps have quickly been formulated and some of the top nations’ invitees play right in our backyard.
Washington Capitals own Alex Ovechkin and prospect Evgeny Kuznetsov were announced as members of the preliminary Russian roster. Defender John Carlson was invited to the 48- man camp in an attempt to make the United States team. In the 2010 Olympics, it was the USA up against archrival Canada with Canada prevailing in the tight contest.
This go around three Capitals will be looking to make the Canadian roster. Goaltender Braden Holtby, and Defenders Karl Alzner and Mike Green each received invites for Team Canada. Last month, it was revealed that Nicklas Backstrom and Marcus Johansson have made Team Sweden’s Olympic camp as well. The Winter Games will occur from February 12th to February 23rdand in response the NHL will take an 11-day break from action as the Olympics take place. Finally, we wish all our Capitals players the best of luck as they try to capture gold in Sochi this upcoming winter.
