The Redskins have a large list of players set to become free agents, one of them being safety Madieu Williams.
Williams came to Washington last offseason on a one-year deal after spending the previous season in San Francisco. Williams appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins, recording 66 tackles, 1 sack, 6 pass deflections and an interception. It was Williams’ best season since his rookie year in 2004, however, doesn’t expect him back with Washington next season.
The Redskins are already $4.7-million over the salary cap even before offering contracts to key players such as Lorenzo Alexander and Fred Davis, neither of whom got franchise tagged yesterday.
Williams would likely have to sign for under a million dollars ($500-$600k) of je wamts tp return to the Redskins. At 31 years old, Williams will be looking to capitalize on his season, and will likely call a team with lots of cap space like Cincinatti in search of a $1-million+ contract.
Williams was a solid player for Washington last season, and proved to be quite valuable after Brandon Merriweather suffered his injury. However, he’s likely seen his last snap in the Burgundy and Gold.
