Congratulations John Carlson! The Washington Capitals defender was named a member of the United States Olympic Hockey team for the 2014 games.  Carlson has performed admirably in 2013 and has elevated his level of play this season.

In just his fourth full year, Carlson has led the Capitals in ice time so far in 2013 and has matched up with opponent’s top offensive threat night in and night out.  Head coach Adam Oates accredited Carlson’s success to his work ethic and development to earning a spot on the Olympic team.  The New Jersey native has taken the top defender position away from Mike Green over recent years due to his consistency on the ice.

Carlson will be one of the first Capitals to represent the United States in recent memory and should provide essential depth throughout the grind of the Olympic games.   On behalf of the entire Washington community, I would like to wish John Carlson the best of luck representing our nation.
