Former Capitals goalie Olie Kolzig was upgraded to Capitals head goaltending coach, Wednesday.  After spending two years as the assistant, “Olie the Goalie” was set to take over for Dave Prior.  Prior held the post of head goaltending coach for the fourteen years before this season.  Kolzig will take over the handling of Braden Holtby and Michael Neuvirth.  Both struggled at time a season ago, but have shown the promise off becoming an All- star.  It is said that Kolzig will have the ability to help the two goaltenders fulfill their potential.

The change in the coaching position was not a major surprise to people close to the organization.  As it was said, General Manager George McPhee brought Kolzig in to eventually take over the duties of Prior.  The Goaltending position has consistently been a question mark for the Caps and many around the fan base believe Olie has the ability to solidify the position.
