Redskins sign Gumbs, Mouton

The Washington Redskins announced Thursday that have signed safety Josh Gumbs and cornerback Ryan Mouton.  So far, Gumbs has been a journeyman player after going undrafted out of Monmouth University.  He has signed with several teams but caught on with the Kansas City Chiefs last season.  He will look to add much needed competition in the safety position, which was among the teams worst a year ago.  Ryan Mouton will be entering his fourth season in the NFL and spent the first three with the team that drafted him, the Carolina Panthers.  Mouton was selected 94th overall in the 2009 draft and has seen action as reserve throughout his short career.

On another note, cornerback Josh Wilson passed his physical and has been lifted from the physically unable to perform list (PUP).  Wilson was placed on the list earlier this week along with defensive lineman Adam Carriker and offensive lineman Maurice Hurt.  During training camp, a player is eligible to begin practicing as soon as they are taken off the list.  If a player remains on the list going into the season, they are then unable to play in games until week eight.  Look for Wilson to now begin competing for the starting cornerback position opposite Deangelo Hall.  Training camp is just getting underway in Richmond.  So go out and support your NFC East champions.
